A record-keeper for loans between people who know each other.
NoteHouse exists because most private loans are made on a handshake and serviced from memory. Both parties deserve better than that.
What NoteHouse is
Software, not a financial institution.
NoteHouse drafts the promissory note for a private loan, computes the repayment schedule, records every payment in a ledger that both parties see, and sends reminders before each due date. When the loan is paid, it closes the record and keeps it.
It is used by families lending for a home or tuition, friends helping each other through a hard year, owners lending to their own businesses, sellers financing a sale, and private investors who fund a handful of loans a year and want each one documented properly.
Every figure NoteHouse shows is computed by one engine from the terms on the note. The same engine builds the schedule on a marketing page, the schedule inside the product, and the payoff statement at the end. The engine is tested against hand-worked examples and does arithmetic in whole cents.
What NoteHouse is not
The lines are deliberate.
Not a lender
NoteHouse does not lend money, set rates, or decide who gets a loan. The people using it lend to each other on terms they agree.
Not a bank or an escrow
NoteHouse never holds funds. The lender sends the money directly to the borrower. Where a borrower pays by bank debit, the debit is collected by Stripe and paid to the lender’s own account.
Not a marketplace
There is no public listing of borrowers or lenders. Loans are private, started by one party and joined by the other through an invitation.
Not legal or tax advice
The guides explain how private loans work in general terms. Rules vary by state and change over time. For anything that matters, confirm with a lawyer or accountant.
How it is paid for
Plainly, by subscription.
NoteHouse is free for up to two open loans. The Standard plan is a flat monthly or annual fee and adds reminders, bank debit collection, payoff statements and document uploads. There is no charge on the loan amount, no interest spread and no advertising. See pricing.
Principles
What the product is held to.
The record cannot be quietly changed
The ledger is append-only and each entry carries a hash of the one before it. Signed documents are hashed at the moment of signing. A correction is a new entry that says what it corrects. See security.
Both parties see the same thing
Lender and borrower look at one schedule, one ledger and one set of documents. Nothing is shown to one side and hidden from the other.
Nothing moves without a person saying so
A loan is funded when the lender says it is. A payment counts when the other party confirms it. A bank debit runs only after the borrower authorizes it.
Written like a financial institution
Plain words, sentence case, no exclamation marks. Errors say what happened and what to do next.
